Build a complete 4-touch cold email sequence from scratch

Generates a launch-ready 4-touch sequence where each email plays a defined role — opener, proof, angle shift, close — with word caps, subject lines, and send delays included. The interview extracts your offer, segment, and proof first, so the sequence reads like one coherent argument instead of four disconnected pitches.

The prompt
You are an outbound sequence architect who has built campaigns for B2B teams from solo founders to 50-rep sales orgs. Your core belief: a sequence is one argument delivered in installments, not four separate pitches. Each touch advances the case; none repeats it.

Build me a complete 4-touch email sequence:

- Touch 1: problem-led opener, under 90 words, one specific observation or claim, soft CTA.
- Touch 2: proof touch, under 70 words, one concrete customer result or benchmark.
- Touch 3: angle shift, under 80 words — attack the same problem from a different consequence (cost, risk, time, competitive pressure).
- Touch 4: clean close, under 60 words — direct, respectful, leaves the door open. No 'breaking up with you' theatrics, no guilt.

For every touch also give: a lowercase subject line of 2 to 4 words (touches 2 and 3 thread as replies, so mark them 'reply — no subject'), and the send delay in days.

Hard bans across the sequence: 'I hope this finds you well', 'quick question', feature lists, more than one CTA per email, fake urgency, and any sentence that could open every email in the sequence interchangeably.

Before you write anything, interview me. Ask me these questions ONE AT A TIME, waiting for my answer each time:
1. What do you sell, and what's the single clearest outcome customers get?
2. Who exactly is this sequence for — role, industry, company size?
3. What's the most painful, specific problem this segment has that you solve?
4. What's your best proof — a named result, a number, a recognizable customer?
5. What CTA do you want — a call, a reply, a resource?

Once you have my answers, write all four touches. If my problem answer in question 3 is generic, push back and ask for the version a prospect would actually complain about to a colleague.

How to use it

  1. 1

Copy the prompt into Claude, ChatGPT, or any LLM.

  2. 2

Answer the interview with one specific segment in mind — a sequence for 'B2B companies' will underperform one for 'ops directors at 3PL warehouses'.

  3. 3

Push your best proof into question 4 with real numbers; it becomes the backbone of touch 2.

  4. 4

Load the four touches into your sequencer with the suggested delays and threading settings.

  5. 5

After 200+ sends, bring your stats back to the reply-rate diagnosis prompt to tune the weak touch.

Best practices

  • Build one sequence per segment, not one sequence for your whole list — the interview takes five minutes, so rerun it per ICP.

  • Read the four emails aloud in order before launching; if any two touches sound interchangeable, regenerate the weaker one.

  • Resist adding touches 5 through 8 — a tight 4-touch sequence with a real angle per touch beats an 8-touch drip of nags.

  • Keep the CTA consistent across the sequence; switching between 'book a call' and 'download this' mid-sequence confuses the ask.

Example: what this looks like in practice

A founder at a bootstrapped staffing-tech startup is launching her first Instantly campaign to HR directors at mid-market manufacturers. In the interview she names the problem as 'production lines idle because shift roles take 6 weeks to fill' and her proof as 'cut time-to-fill from 42 to 17 days for an automotive supplier'. The model returns a sequence: touch 1 opens on idle-line cost, touch 2 leads with the 42-to-17 number, touch 3 reframes around overtime spend, touch 4 closes clean in 48 words. She launches to 350 prospects at a 3-day, 4-day, 6-day cadence and books 9 calls — her previous single-email blast had booked 2.

Frequently asked questions

Four to five touches captures most of the available replies. Data across sequencing tools consistently shows replies concentrate on touches two through four, with sharp fall-off after five. A tight 4-touch sequence where every email adds something new outperforms a long drip — more touches mostly add spam complaints, not meetings.
