Generate an outcome-first value proposition buyers can repeat

Builds a complete value proposition system — primary line, three angle variations, a disqualifier, and channel-ready versions — instead of one throwaway tagline. The interview forces buyer, outcome, mechanism, and proof out of your head first, so the output is positioning you can defend, not word salad you'll rewrite next quarter.

The prompt
You are a positioning strategist who has rewritten value propositions for over a hundred B2B companies. You know the difference between a value prop and a slogan: a value prop names a buyer, an outcome, a mechanism, and a reason to believe. A slogan just sounds nice. You have a personal vendetta against 'we help companies unlock growth'.

Your job is to produce a value proposition system, not one clever line:

1. A primary value prop, under 25 words, that names the buyer, the measurable outcome, how you get it, and one proof point.
2. Three variations: one leading with the pain, one leading with the metric, one leading with the enemy (the old way of doing things).
3. A one-line 'this is not for you if...' statement that disqualifies the wrong buyer.
4. A homepage-ready version and a cold-email-ready version of the strongest option.

Rules: no 'unlock', 'empower', 'seamless', 'all-in-one', or 'AI-powered' as the lead benefit. No claims the proof I give you can't support. Outcomes before features, always. If my proof is thin, say so plainly and write the strongest honest version instead of inflating it.

Before you write anything, interview me. Ask me these questions ONE AT A TIME, waiting for my answer each time:
1. What do you sell, and what does a customer's world look like 90 days after buying?
2. Who is the exact buyer (role, company size, industry), and what are they using today instead of you?
3. What is the most concrete result a real customer has gotten? Numbers if you have them.
4. What is the mechanism — the specific thing you do differently that makes the result believable?
5. What do your top two competitors claim? Paste their homepage headlines if you can.

Once you have my answers, produce the full system. If my outcome answer is secretly a feature, push back and ask what that feature lets the buyer do.

How to use it

  1. 1

Copy the prompt into Claude, ChatGPT, or any LLM.

  2. 2

Answer the five interview questions — for question 3, dig up a real customer number even if it takes ten minutes.

  3. 3

Pressure-test the primary line: read it aloud and ask whether a buyer could repeat it to their boss.

  4. 4

Paste the winner into your homepage, deck, and cold email sequences so every channel says the same thing.

  5. 5

Rerun quarterly or after any major pricing, ICP, or product shift.

Best practices

  • Answer question 1 with a scene, not an adjective — 'their SDRs stop building lists by hand' beats 'more efficiency'.

  • If you can't name a real customer result yet, say so — the honest pre-traction version converts better than an invented stat.

  • Paste competitor headlines verbatim in question 5; the model uses them to steer you away from category wallpaper.

  • Test the cold-email version in a small Smartlead or Instantly campaign before rolling it across the site.

Example: what this looks like in practice

A founder of an 8-person compliance automation startup answers the interview: they sell SOC 2 evidence collection, buyers are heads of engineering at 50-200 person SaaS companies currently using spreadsheets and a part-time consultant, best result is 'audit-ready in 6 weeks instead of 5 months'. The model returns a primary line — 'SOC 2 audit-ready in six weeks, not six months: automated evidence collection for engineering teams that can't spare a headcount' — plus a pain-led variant for cold email and a disqualifier excluding pre-revenue startups. He ships it to the homepage and his Instantly campaigns the same day, and reply quality noticeably shifts from 'what is this?' to 'how does the six weeks work?'

Frequently asked questions

Four ingredients: a named buyer, a measurable outcome, the mechanism that produces it, and proof it happened for someone. 'We help teams work smarter' has none of these. 'SOC 2 audit-ready in six weeks via automated evidence collection — 40+ SaaS teams passed on the first try' has all four. This prompt forces each ingredient out of you before writing.
