BetterContact review

Premium waterfall email and mobile finder — the last step in our enrichment stack for the prospects nobody else can find.

BetterContact waterfalls across 20+ premium data providers to find emails and mobile numbers that single-source tools miss. We run it as the final step in our own waterfall — only paying premium rates for prospects cheaper tools couldn't find. Strong European coverage, best-in-class mobile number hit rate, and only charges for valid data.

Our verdict

The bottom line on BetterContact.

BetterContact is not a cheap tool — and that's exactly why we use it where we do. As a standalone email finder, it's priced well above single-source tools like Hunter or Prospeo. But we don't run it as a standalone. We run it as the last step in our own waterfall: cheaper tools first, then BounceBan for catch-alls, then whatever's still missing goes to BetterContact. At that point we're only paying premium rates for prospects no other tool could find — which is exactly where the ROI lives. The hit rate on otherwise-dead contacts is worth the per-credit premium, especially for European ICPs and mobile data. The agency discount makes the math work.

Best for

  • Agencies running stacked enrichment workflows where BetterContact sits at the end of the waterfall
  • Teams targeting European, APAC, or LATAM prospects where single-source US-focused tools have coverage gaps
  • Mobile outbound operations that need reliable phone numbers, not just emails
  • Clay users stacking BetterContact natively inside Clay waterfalls
  • Anyone willing to pay premium credit rates to reach prospects competitors wrote off as undeliverable

Not for

  • Budget-first operators running US-only campaigns — a single-source tool is meaningfully cheaper at comparable hit rates
  • Teams that need real-time synchronous API responses — the 20+ provider waterfall takes seconds per contact
  • Anyone looking for a primary bulk enrichment tool (overkill — use cheaper tools first, BetterContact for the gaps)

Pros & cons

The honest take.

What's great
  • Best-in-class hit rate on hard-to-find emails — consistently reaches contacts other tools mark as undiscoverable
  • Only charges for valid data (catch-alls and invalid contacts are free)
  • Strong European coverage — rare among tools built primarily for the US market
  • Genuinely reliable mobile phone finder (10 credits each, but the quality justifies it)
  • Agency discount pricing brings per-credit cost close to competitive at volume
  • Native Clay integration is excellent — drop it in as a waterfall step and the economics work
  • GDPR / CCPA / DSGVO compliant out of the box (important for European agency work)
  • Built-in email verification on every found contact (no extra step needed)
Where it falls short
  • Per-credit pricing is higher than single-source finders — only makes sense as part of a waterfall, not as a primary tool
  • API response time is slow relative to single-source tools because it sequences through 20+ providers internally
  • No real way to control which providers get queried first — the waterfall logic is a black box
  • Starter tier ($15/mo) is too small for serious agency work — you'll need Pro or Enterprise quickly
Deep dive

Our experience with BetterContact.

Where BetterContact fits in our stack

BetterContact is the last stop in our enrichment waterfall — not the first. That distinction matters, because pricing it as a primary tool misreads the entire product. It's expensive on a per-credit basis; it's also the only tool we've used that reliably finds contacts other providers mark as undiscoverable. That combination makes it uniquely suited to the end of a stack, where you're only spending premium credits on the contacts that matter.

The actual workflow

A typical list runs like this: cheaper waterfall tools hit first (often inside Clay — Hunter, Prospeo, Dropcontact, etc). Anything returned as 'catch-all' cascades to BounceBan for dedicated catch-all verification. Anything still missing — usually 10–20% of the remaining list — cascades to BetterContact. The 20+ providers it aggregates often surface contacts the earlier tools genuinely don't have. On European ICPs the gap is even larger, because most primary tools under-index heavily on non-US data.

Why the 'only valid data' promise matters

BetterContact is the only waterfall tool we've used that doesn't charge for catch-all results. That sounds like a small detail; it's not. In a waterfall setup, a naive provider can burn half your credits returning catch-all addresses that still need verification. BetterContact internally runs verification (via UseBounce) and only deducts a credit when the data is valid. On a 5,000-contact enrichment, that can be the difference between 5,000 credits spent and 9,000 credits spent.

European coverage and mobile data

The single biggest reason we keep BetterContact in the stack is European coverage. Most primary email finders are built on US-centric data and their hit rate drops off a cliff outside North America. BetterContact aggregates European-specific providers and consistently returns contacts for DACH, Nordics, and Southern European prospects that other tools simply don't have. The same applies to mobile numbers — where US-first tools are thin, BetterContact remains reliable.

The honest downsides

The API is slower than single-source tools. Because BetterContact is itself running a waterfall across 20+ providers per call, response times can stretch to several seconds per contact. For bulk async enrichment inside Clay or Make, this is fine. For real-time use cases where a form submission needs to enrich-and-respond in under 500ms, it's the wrong tool.

And the price is real. At $389/mo for 1,000 credits on Pro versus ~$49/mo for 1,000 at Hunter or Prospeo, BetterContact is ~8x the per-credit cost. Without the agency discount and without a stacked waterfall where it only sees the hardest prospects, the math doesn't work. With both, it's one of the highest-ROI tools in outbound.

BetterContact FAQ

Frequently asked questions

As a standalone primary tool, probably not — it's ~8x the per-credit cost of tools like Hunter or Prospeo. As the last step in a waterfall, absolutely. You're only paying premium rates for prospects that cheaper tools couldn't find, which is exactly where the ROI is. The agency discount brings the math even closer to standalone tools at volume.
